Can I set homework over the summer?

Can I set homework over the summer?

        Article summary

Things to consider when setting homework in the summer:

        • Reading data is linked to an academic year, so you will need to download any reports on whether students completed any summer reading before you reset your Sparx Reader site for the new year. After your new academic year starts, you will not be able to access this data.

Here are some options for students completing reading in Sparx Reader over the summer:

Set a homework during the summer

You can create a homework in Sparx Reader for each of your classes. You could choose to create weekly homework with an SRP target for each week, or alternatively set 1 homework to span the full holiday period, with a higher SRP target.

        Notes to consider:

        • If you have parent emails turned on, and students are being set Maths homework too, parents will continue to receive update emails before the end data of each homework.

Encourage students to login and do some reading without setting homework

In Sparx Reader, students do not need to have a homework set in order to do some reading and earn SRP. They can simply login, pick a book in their library and read.

        Notes to consider:

        • Total and yearly SRP for each student will increase in the activity report and the insights page, but there won’t be specific weeks in the activity report that the activity will be attributed to.
