Occasionally you may need to remove classes or students from your Sparx Reader site. This article explains how to do this safely while ensuring student data is handled appropriately.

When you a remove a class from Sparx Reader, all the students in the class will also be removed and will no longer be able to log into Sparx Reader.
Go to 'More' → 'Class Manager' → 'Import and manage classes'
Click 'Remove' next to any classes that you want to remove, on the right-hand side of the screen
Click 'Preview changes'
Check that you're happy with the changes that will be made. The preview will show you:
Classes to be removed
Students to be removed
Click 'Sync changes' if you're happy with the preview.

Typically, students need to be removed from your MIS in order for them to be removed from Sparx Reader
Removals will reflect in Sparx Reader after the next sync. See the 'Keeping class and student data in sync with your MIS' section below for more information.
If you need to retain the student's record in your MIS, but you no longer want them to show in Sparx Reader (for example, for Data Protection compliance), you can ask your school's technical contact to add the student to the blocklist in Wonde, which will prevent us from being able to see their data.

Once classes and students have been imported into Sparx Reader:
We'll automatically sync student removals from your MIS.
We won't automatically sync class removals - you'll need to run a manual sync and confirm the removal as described below.
When you make a change in your school's MIS, the changes won't show in Sparx Reader immediately
Changes in your MIS are synced to Sparx Reader via a third party service called Wonde
Wonde pulls data from your MIS roughly every 4 hours
Sparx Reader pulls data from Wonde automatically overnight
As such, changes typically reflect in Sparx Reader within 24 hours
For urgent changes, you can perform a manual sync:
Go to 'Class Manager' → 'Import & Manage Classes'
Click 'Preview changes'
Click 'Sync changes' if happy with the preview

What happens to student data when they are removed through MIS?
When a student is removed from your MIS, they will lose access to Sparx Reader after the next sync. If the student returns to your school at a later date and is added back to your MIS, their Sparx account will be reactivated with their previous data intact.
Removed students' data is retained securely for 2 years in case they rejoin, after which it is anonymised.
