Sparx Reader is designed to support all students in developing their reading skills. We understand that students have different needs when it comes to accessing and engaging with text, so we provide various accessibility features to help make reading more comfortable and accessible.
Accessibility settings for reading
Students can personalise their reading experience by adjusting several settings. These are available on both desktop and mobile devices.
To access these settings:
Click the menu button in the top right corner
Select 'Settings'
Available settings
Font size adjustment
For larger screens (e.g. Laptop): sizes range from 16.2px to 36px
For smaller screens (e.g. Mobile): sizes range from 13.5px to 30px
Line and letter spacing
Dyslexia-friendly fonts
Coloured backgrounds to help reduce visual stress
Reading guides to help maintain focus on the current line of text

We try to encourage students to learn and practice reading carefully. However, we acknowledge that in specific circumstances the text being read out loud could be a useful tool to support specific students for example those with a visual impairment. In these cases, most third party screen reading software should work alongside Sparx Reader.

Yes, once a student sets their accessibility preferences, these settings will be remembered for future sessions.
Can students access Sparx Reader on a Kindle?
Can students access Sparx Reader on a Kindle?
Sparx Reader is compatible with any device with standard browsers (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox). As these browsers are generally not available on Kindles, it is not possible to use Reader on these devices.
